I started my education at Sacramento State as a Civil Engineer and ended my studies with a Bachelor Degree in Gerontology. I was not sure what career path I was going take when I entered into college. I did, however, know that I wanted to help people in some way. While on my journey of self-discovery, I found myself developing a passion to help, and eventually, become an advocate for our aging population. A complete 180 from when I started to how I finished. In 2012, I became a student of Gerontology which began with an internship at an ADHC (Adult Day Health Center); this opportunity introduced me to the world of older adults with mental health ailments and varying disabilities. During this time I found myself getting excited about the opportunity of working hands on with the clients, seeing how happy they got during activities and how shocked they were that I loved some of the songs they have listened to their whole lives. This experience helped me to arrive at the conclusion that I had chosen the correct career path as an advocate for our ever growing adult population.
In my last year of School, I was an intern for the Social Services and Activities department at a SNF (Skilled Nursing Facility). Working in this position gave me insight into the processes of care management, from conducting intake or annual assessments, listening to the concerns of the residents and trying to find ways problem solve, to participating in Interdisciplinary team meetings, and teaching In-Service courses. The knowledge and experiences gained from those lessons and encounters helped to shape the foundation of my belief that I was meant to help others. I graduated with my degree and began my search for an occupation/career in the field of Health and Human Services, which ultimately led me to work for A Senior Connection where I hope to continue to help the aging population in their time of need through my position as an Assistant Care Navigator.Go Back
